Overview

Island Timberlands properties are in proximity of many Vancouver Island and coastal communities. Sustainable forestry is balancing our business with community values.

Here are some examples of our community support:

Young Professional of Nanaimo - Community Gardens

Island Timberlands has proudly supported the Young Professional of Nanaimo in their Community Gardens project through the sponsorship of two garden beds. These beds have been growing food donated to Nanaimo’s Loaves and Fishes Food Bank.

Nanaimo Pirates Minor League Baseball Team

Island Timberlands supports the Nanaimo Pirates minor league team. The team includes two of our employee’s children; Isabella, daughter to Dave Bortolotto, a log truck driver working out of our Northwest Bay operation and Noah, son to Kraig Urbanoski, area planner for Island Timberlands. The team ranked 4th out of 12 in the tournament where the photos were taken this July.

Silly Boat Regatta 2011

Thank you to the 'Shiver me Timber' members who volunteered their time to be part of Island Timberlands' first year participating in an annual popular community event, the Silly Boat Regatta. This event raised upwards of $100,000 for Nanaimo’s Child Development Center.

A special thanks to Gail at the “Coastal Water Store” in Nanaimo for their support by supplying some water jugs for our boat’s floatation design.

This is the Island Timberlands sponsored ball team.  They enjoyed a win on Wednesday, July 6th, against Lantzville, the top team in Men’s B league.

Shoreline Arts Festival Campbell River

The Campbell River’s 16th annual Shoreline Arts Carving competition event brings carvers to the Pacific shoreline of Campbell River for five days during the last week in June to transform cedar and/or fir carving logs into works of art. About 30 carvers shape their logs using chainsaws, mauls, knives, chisels and other custom tools .  The finished sculptures are later displayed in various parks and sponsors' premises for everyone to enjoy year round.

As a thank you for our log donation; we are the fortunate recipients of one of the exhibits entitled, “Now it’s a sport”.

IT WCR Buckskinner Trophy

Dan Wicks, the Booshway for this year's event, is handing the IT WCR Buckskinner trophy to the 2011 recipient, Celine Ollech.  This trophy was donated by the Company, 'to recognize the black powder shooter to the exact middle score'.

Island Timberlands supports the West Coast Rangers Black Powder Rendezvous competition each year on May long weekend.

KSS Biology 11 Students

The Biology students from KSS who participated in the Bamfield Marine Science Centre field trip in April 2011, sent us this collage and a beautiful card, as an 'Orca size thank you' for the Island Timberlands donation of $1000.00 towards the costs for transporting the students to and from the Marine Station. As reported by their teacher, Anne Crossley, in THE NEWS, Tuesday, May 17, 2011, "Without this grant, students would not have been able to have this amazing experience that they will remember for years to come".

Totem Pole - Skidegate Village

Here is a photo of the totem pole carved by Tim Boyko from a red cedar log donated by Island Timberlands. The pole was raised on the May long weekend in Skidegate Village in Haida Gwaii.
